This is how I must do the beach - long sleeves, light skirt, umbrella. I learned at a young age that it's just not possible for me to do the beach like a normal person, because there simply isn't an SPF high enough to keep me from turning into a lobster. There just isn't. This cardigan came from ModCloth only a few days before, and I knew it would be perfect for my beach-day needs, since it's a loose cotton, and a nice cream color.

We headed out to Cannon Beach to take our sweet house-guest on an outing, and to bid bon voyage to Summer. It was the most perfect beach day for an Emily-type-person. Breezy, clear, sunny, and cool...we couldn't have ordered better weather.

Josiah took these lovely photos, and was so sweet to do so. It's amazing the beautiful tricks and impressionistic surprises the light gives you on a windy, misty beach.

The weather is now doing its usual vacillation betwixt chilly and warm, so my outfits are swinging to and fro accordingly- serious jacket one day, no tights or socks the next. I'm still seriously excited about Autumn, but also not begrudging the remaining warm days (we're going to the beach tomorrow, to try to officially observe the end-of-summer).

Anyway, enough about the weather! I love this dress. I know I've worn it on here before...it's dotted swiss and has the funniest asymmetrical button placket.

 

The sweater clips were an Etsy find from a few months back. I like to think they're magnolias, if only because that appeals to my Southern roots.

Speaking of the South, when we were taking these photos, Josiah called this "the Southern Gothic" photo-spot...I guess because of its dilapidation, peeling paint, etc. Oh, and the weeds.

 

The weeds certainly help.

C'mon, Fall!

For some reason, Typepad is double-spacing everything I write, unless I manually override it, hence the weird "list" of stuff up there. Very odd! Anyway, I'm so excited for Fall to be here, and I know I'm not the only one. One of my favorite things about Portland is the short, relatively mild Summer and Winter, and the looong Fall and Spring. I can't get enough 50 and 60 degree days, no sir! It's been nice and cool after our horrid heat wave - cool enough to break out this new tweed dress that I just love.

Amy and I snagged it at a big Nordstrom pre-season sale last month, and man - it's so perfect. A little Joan-from-Mad-Men, but  not requiring special corsetry to wiggle into. The fit is immaculate, and it even has my favorite neckline.

 

Long live the sweetheart neckline!

I'm getting excited about new fall jackets and skirts and everything...I have to make some posts with all my favorites for the acorn season soon.

Vulpine Fingers

I've got a new favorite thing.

It's this ring:

I found it at Redux last Friday, and I just love it so. I like rings in theory, especially big, kooky ones, but they're so hard to wear in practice. This one, however, is so dainty, so demure, so unobtrusive, once could forget it is there!

The shop-gal told me it's from a Brooklyn designer, but she didn't give me a name. If anyone recognizes the work, (Edit: Thanks to those of you who tracked down the ring's creator - she can be found here). I'm very pleased to know who to thank for my miniature foxlet companion!

His 'N Hers

Recently, J and I realized that we both needed new wallets - stat.

I gave him this lovely, looks-like-his-shoes one from Urban for his birthday. It's faux-leather, but I was impressed with its flexibility and soft grain. I waited on mine - I've been obsessing over this wallet from Hobo for little while now. Their craftsmanship and design is so good - I especially love the vintage-inspired line, because it's like getting a beautiful kiss-lock vintage bag but in supple, new materials and with utterly practical features.

I picked up the wallet in black on our weekend trip to Seattle, and I love it so!

Yay for new homes for our cards, Washingtons, and pennies.
