I found this dress in this extremely good Etsy shop a month or so back. And holy smokes! She has this dress currently in her shop - be still my heart.
And while I love this dress, it has a decidedly frumpy neckline. Here's a photo of it from the listing, so you can see the way it buttons up - no collar, just a little blah. So I've been puzzling over this neckline-pickle for the last few weeks, and the other day when I went to slip it on, a short-term, vut pretty solution came to mind:
I used safety pins on either side to make an impromptu sweetheart neckline. In my opinion, the sweetheart is the queen of all necklines, so I was happy I could finagle one out of this beautiful 50's Spring dress. I'm not sure what I'll do long-term (stitch the gathers into place and make it permanent?)
Oh! The little bow pin you see up there is another that I made from just the tiniest scrap of vintage fabric that I couldn't bear to toss. It's really simple to do...just make a loop for the bow part, a smaller loop for the "cinching" of the bow, and then two little strips for the "ties". It's really just the illusion of a bow...a more perfect bow than one gets by really tying.
This was such a fun jaunt in the park - we got a few little cupcakes and some cute cafeteria style milks, and headed over for a walk and some duck-watching. Very sweet!
