Another color I'm having a little love affair with right now are these warm and cool, airy green-blues in the lightest shades.
Here are a few treasures I've found recently that fit right in:

 
Vintage sheer printed apron, 1940's nightie, JCrew cardigan

The apron was an antique-store find a few weeks ago. I've really cut down on my apron-collecting, but if I find a really, really pretty one...I can't say no! The sweater has been hanging in my dressing room for months, but it is finally warm enough for it. Maybe I'll wear it today?

And lastly...the nightie! Which I fully intend to hem and wear as a dress. I think it must have been deadstock, because there is not a thread out of place on the thing...so beautiful. I get really excited when I find slips or nighties that are modest enough to pass as a dress. And heck, I always go by the "two or more slips equals a dress" rule, anyway.

In the too-many-clams-but-lovely-nonetheless category, this Paul + Joe dress would be a nice minty addition to my Summer dresses:

There was a Zac Posen, also on Netaporter, that was a crazy-beautiful Grecian mint gown, but I can't seem to find it. It's probably all the better, because I'd just get all clutchy about it all over again.

I came very close to gasping when I saw these two darling, circus-y dresses over in the Liberty shop.

 
They're both Eley Kishimoto. And they're both a little too pricey for me at this moment in time. But goodness!

The title of my post comes from a Ruth Etting song. She is my favorite 30's singer...one of those great torch singers that manages to be sad and funny and happy all at once.

I just love this dress. It was my birthday dress (meaning I bought it to wear to my birthday party, even though it was in February and cold outside!).  I think it's from the late 30's or early 40's, and something interesting about it: it might be a maternity dress. We (the lady I bought it from and myself) think that because of these nifty little ties that take the dress from frumpy to shapely. They could also be tied in the front, if one was expecting. Just a theory!

It's so perfect...the cut, the weight, the print, the collar. Even the little bunchy-cotton "shoulder pads" that keep the sleeves nice and poufy are sweet.

I would love to have this exact dress is 5 different prints.
It's probably all I would wear!

This is a thrifting outfit from last Friday. I'm wearing that grey 50's blouse from my last post!
It's so cute (I covered it with the sweater because it's also short-ish), and I knew I wanted to wear it with a full skirt. Then I was afraid I didn't have any more full skirts, because I've tossed a lot in the past for being unflattering...but luckily, as I was pulling out my Summer clothes, I found this one from last year! It's lovely, and goes with so much. I was so excited to rediscover it.

  

I bought the sandals on sale when there was still frost in the air, but then I took my fall and haven't been able to wear them! Luckily, just as it's the right weather (hot enough to want my hair up off of my neck, as you can see in the photo) my ankle is well enough for them.

I had just nabbed the pretty, old globe at the store for a song. We have one we like, but I think I know a few people who might be in need of a globe, even if it still depicts the Soviet Union.

Yesterday's Vintage Finds

We stopped by my favorite local vintage store yesterday while we were out running errands. That place always has so many lovely things...it's positively full of 40's and 50's dresses and blouses.

I came away with these things, all of them quite nuetral, but special!

About 80 Years Late for Tap Dance Practice

All dolled up in nuetrals. It was sunny and hot (for Portland) on Saturday, and this is what I wore out and about...I was feeling like a 20's/30's tap dancer that day.

I bought the blouse a few months ago on super-super-sale, and I've worn it so much already that its cost-per-wear is about to dip below a dollar. You just never know what will become a staple (well, sometimes you do...but lots of times I don't!)

I don't know why it never occurred to me, in my love of every-so-slightly slouched socks, to try slouching some old-school, regular-ol' stockings. I guess I thought they wouldn't stand a chance of staying up, but they did really well over a pair of (lighter peach) tights.

I'm so surprised at how much I've ended up liking yellow. Especially this pretty butter-hued kind of yellow. But when I was a little girl, my mom did always say that it was her favorite color on me (much to my chagrin, because I was really into magenta and hot pink at the time).

This outfit is from at least a week ago, but the photos fit the mood of the beautiful, sun-dappled weekend we've had.

Spring, it seems like you are really really here.

One of my favorite colors at the moment (not that you could tell from my Paddington Bear-colored outfits from the last few posts) is a sort of dirty-ish, antique light peach. I was so excited to find this pretty cardigan that is the exact color that's in my mind.

And, of course, I'm still dreaming about dioramas from the Natural History Museum...

It's Always Beret Weather in Portland, Pt. 2

The word on the street is that it's going to be in the 90's this weekend, but goodness knows you wouldn't have any inkling of that from just a few days ago.

We were out on a walk in our neighborhood, and there is this huge wall of bushes/trees that I'm fond of, so I ducked into it for a few photos. Note that I'm wearing my crippled-ankle boots...even though I've mostly moved on to "transitional" shoes to wear in between my crippled-ankle days and being 100% (the white t-straps you'll be seeing a lot of, as a matter of fact).

It's Always Beret Weather in Portland

Where the heck did I go?
Well, no matter the silly things that have kept me away lately (sickie-status, exclusive  big-black-boot wearing, our New York trip, etc.) I'm back! And I have outfit photos backed up to last quite a little while...so here's one to start.

I know the perenially 50-60 degree days in the Portland Spring get old for some folks, but for my personal proclivities, I can't imagine anything nicer that berets and cocoa every day!
