For the last few weeks that I've been mobile(ish), I've only been able to wear my big black riding boots. They're one of 2 or 3 pairs of shoes I have that are relatively flat, and they also covered up my disfigured leg + ankle. It was getting really tiresome, having to plan every outfit around what goes with those darn boots! Such was the case last Sunday when we made a big trip to Powells.

I am in love with this new blouse - I had it custom made here and it's pretty perfect. Blouses are tricky for me, because if they're right in the shoulders and waist, they often (okay, always) gape terribly in the bust. I suppose this is a very feminine problem to have, but it's a thorn in the side of a girl that loves blouses! I fashioned the bow-tie out of an old sash I had around. I'm a big fan of the long-bow. I haven't had the courage yet to wear the really long style of bow-tie, in which the ties hang down to your hip-region (if you're having trouble visualizing, I KNOW I have a photo from the 20's or 30's of a girl wearing one). I'll have to poke around for that photo.

It's Hard to Keep the Line Between the Past and the Present

Just peeking out from my (unplanned) cripple-and-sickie hiatus to share this insanely beautiful look that Drew Barrymore was sporting at the Grey Gardens premiere. Initially, I was pretty against this film (the real Grey Gardens being something I love passionately) but since I've watched a few scenes online and realized it's not at all the frame-by-frame remake of the documentary I feared it would be, I'm pretty excited. And Jeanne Tripplehorn as Jackie O! So good.

 

Beautiful hairpiece! Finger waves! Nude, bias-cut gown! It's all too lovely.

Since I was a teenager, I've had irrationally huge love for Ms. Barrymore, and even though some people make fun of me for it, the love continues.

This is actually what I was wearing the day I accidentally savaged my ankle last week! I went to a Rasputina show with Anja, Josiah, and Julianna, which is where the unfortunate incident took place.
Anyway, this is why I had donned my pretty rose headpiece from Boudoir Queen, which is reserved for special days. The dress came from Ashley's booth at the antique mall. I love it!

 
If I am remembering correctly, the rose, which is made of paper, was taken from a Victorian mourning wreath. The leaves are that pretty, velvety (almost furry) vintage millinery style leaf. It's one of my favorite things!

Maybe if I hadn't been in such a dreamy reverie, listening to cellos and with a rose-fairy crown on my head, I wouldn't have fallen and twisted my ankle. But reveries and cellos and roses are essential things, so I'm not sure what's to be done!
