It's time to show you guys the project I've been working on...I've been so, so excited to share them.
It's the new Black Apple paper doll set!
Elsie:
I've been thinking of making a fresh set for the last year or so, because I've grown a little tired of the old set (which will be retired now) and I just wanted to see what I could do with a new trio of paper sweeties.
Lots of sketches, hours and test prints later...they're finally in the shop. Paper dolls are a lot more work than one might think...it's a very peculiar thing getting everything to "match up", especially if they're from hand-drawn/painted originals and not digitally created. I brought the pretty-much-final set to Amy's today to let her girls play "test kitchen".
After a few final tweaks I'm feeling even more excited about them! I hope you like them, too.
Also, I will have a few framed paper doll originals available in the shop next Monday!
xoxo

Your art looks very beautiful. Loved it. Thanks for sharing.

Emily...I've been following your blog for a year and a half now, but have never commented. I just wanted to pop in and say that I love your asthetic. You are so unique and I'm so glad you're not afraid to be true to that one-of-a-kind voice you have in the world. I love these dolls...especially the way you made them kind of pigeon-toed. How adorable!

These are just so sweet--I love paper dolls...I have one particular memory of a sweet set my Mom gave to me when I broke my arm badly as a little girl... to keep my mind off the cast and such!

dearest emily, this is not meant to be a complaint or an insult, but something has always held me back from ordering your other paper dolls - though they have been in my cart many times and i've looked at them over and over again on etsy. i'm not sure what it was that kept me from ordering them. they just weren't "perfect" for me, or i don't know what. i'm sure other people looked at them and thought, "i must have those!" anyway, these new beauties, however, are "just right" for me. i love them. :O) i will be ordering them as soon as the next paycheck arrives!
wonderful work as always :O)

Adorable! Love them....now if only I had a little girl to play with them! My sticks & snails & puppy dog tails son wouldn't be caught dead with them ;)

I know Fiona has quite a fan club, but I think my favourite would have to be Jane, especially if she was dressed with the mask and the birdcage. Like a little bird-stealing bandit!

I did try to make paperdolls one time and i know it's a lot of work. I never did finish them.
A friend just got a cricut and she is going to make paperdoll magnets for her little niece.
I love your work
Posted by: lavon | January 09, 2009 at 03:24 PM
Goodness, these dolls are cute as buttons! They are very "you", right here and now. I wish my girls were old enough for paper dolls. For now, they will have to be content with their wooden/magnetic set.
Will there be a mini-update on Monday? I have squirreled away a little Christmas money for such an occasion ☺
Posted by: GirlieGirl | January 09, 2009 at 02:42 PM
Very neat. I can imagine them being a lot harder to produce than it looks, so nice job!

It also is perfect that my beautiful one year old extremely blonde daughter is named "FIONA" which is exactly like one of your dolls. I will be on top of this.
