Tiny People in Terrariums
Terrarium 8"x10"x2" Acrylic on canvas
This new little painting came from thinking about one of my favorite (probably miss-remembered) quotes (the banner text in the painting), from the book Everything is Illuminated.
I've been thinking (as I often do) about the nature of our constructed, protected worlds and how important they are. This post of Heidi's really got to me the other day, and so it has just been on my mind. The weekend is going just as planned...that is: staying in, stormy weather, painting, dvd's, a bit of shipping, possibly-fancy-dinner tonight. I emailed for about 3 hours straight yesterday, so the weekend is mostly free and clear!
I hope yours is going just how you'd like it to. See you soon!

Hi Emily...
I have a garden bell that this painting reminds me of....very nice work...

mmm, yes it is, thank you! Though warming the hearth fires against a storm is something I've missed. It's been a long time since I've been able to.
Still. I've written 12 pages of my thesis stuff in the last two days, I'm finishing a tee and maybe doing some painting myself.
Here's to relaxing, satisfying, enjoyable weekends!cheers!

Honestly, if my house could be anything it would be a terrarium. Wonderful!

Your new painting is so charming! I love that it was inspired by a quote from Everything is Illuminated too. Have you read his other book, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close? It is one of my absolute favorites, and even better than Everything is Illuminated if you ask me! I'm not really one to read things twice, but I had to read that one more than once it is so beautiful!

What a darling painting! I really enjoy the scripting at the bottom and the beret on the boy's head.
I saw you on Martha the other day, and I am now a huge fan. I can't wait to make dolls of my own and send them off to my little cousins. Thanks for sharing it with us.

I just finished watching my Tivo'd Martha episode Emily. Bravo! I had no idea you were the #1 seller on Etsy, that is so cool! It was fun to be able to say to my husband - "Remember that girl I bought the Milk magazine in Paris for? That's her!" :o)
