Tiny People in Terrariums
Terrarium 8"x10"x2" Acrylic on canvas
This new little painting came from thinking about one of my favorite (probably miss-remembered) quotes (the banner text in the painting), from the book Everything is Illuminated.
I've been thinking (as I often do) about the nature of our constructed, protected worlds and how important they are. This post of Heidi's really got to me the other day, and so it has just been on my mind. The weekend is going just as planned...that is: staying in, stormy weather, painting, dvd's, a bit of shipping, possibly-fancy-dinner tonight. I emailed for about 3 hours straight yesterday, so the weekend is mostly free and clear!
I hope yours is going just how you'd like it to. See you soon!

Perfect as always! I love all the little things in this picture, bunny *cute*, swan, bird.. I'm especially loving the old effect that your paintings have now. The edges are beautiful. And the ribbon and writing around the bottom is icing!
Ohhh prettiness.

Hi, Emily! The painting is wonderful and I adore the warm palette you're using - nice light! Thanks for posting a link to Heidi's site. I took a trip over and read her post. No wonder it's been haunting you - so sad and also quite frightening. :0( I guess we've got a lot of work to do.
Oh... your martha appearance was great!
hugs, Louisa

SO lovely!
I really enjoyed reading Everything is Illuminated, and if you haven't seen the movie yet I recommend it as well... not nearly as good as the book but enjoyable just the same.

I really like this one. It makes me quite thoughtful, which is always a good response to evoke in my opinion.

just wonderful Emily and on a funny connected sort of note I was at the woods behind my sister's house today hunting for lumps of moss to make my own terrariums! I found some thrifted glass jars last week that made me want to do it, and now this...how funny!
Thanks again for your kind comment on my post, It also reminded me to re-netflix the movie. We had netflixed it awhile back but something happened and we ended up sending it back without watching. My friend was talking about it and couldnt believe that we had never seen it...and it arrived today funny connectivity again!
