It's the Little (mostly red) Things...

I thought I'd post about a few recent purchases of little things that are making me very, very happy.
And when I started thinking about it, many of them seem to be red (or reddish)...so we've got kind of a theme going here:

Red1

Beautiful poppy pin from the graceful Etsy shop, Foundling (the equally beautiful image is the seller's own). Very excited about these...I've been eying them for quite a while.
Some_girls_2293
These insanely sweet and Black Apple-ish hairpins from Anthro that I had also been eying for a while.

Some_girls_2294
Also from Anthro, this teacup I had been crazy for, and finally ordered.

Some_girls_2292
Pretty scatter-pins (the least red of the bunch, I'm noticing now) from this quirky-cute Etsy shop.

Red2
And this gocco print, which I find terribly romantic, from the always-right-on Julianna Swaney. I can't keep my dollars in my pocket when I go to her Etsy shop!

Here's to little treasures that make it all so much better!
xoxo

Great post. I like that red poppy pins..really to pleasant.

Thanks!

That tea cup is just lovely, you were very sensible to buy something to pretty.

Dear Emily,
i just wanted to write this as a note of encuragement to you after all of the harsh comments about your dolls. you are such an inspiration to me and i'm sure to other young crafters out there also. i am 15 and have been making things basicly my whole life but i never thought that it would be possible to make a living by selling my stuff. but you have changed my mind about that. so i want to say thankyou for having this blog and putting your self out here, because unknowingly you are blessing at least one person in a different corner of our little world. and even though people can be mean and hurtful there are even more people who love what you are doing, what you are makeing, and love you.

with much adoration, Clara

Emily, I love the Anthro teacup and saucer.

I feel empathetic toward you over the negativity that are experiencing. I once had a blog that I created to help artists with tips and techniques. Although it was popular at first; one negative person "upset the apple cart" and essentially destroyed my blog. To be honest; my blog was getting to be a burden so I was relieved in discontinuing it. However, I was so upset over this whole incident that I did not paint for a long time. I saw Barack Obama on "The View" today and he said that you just have to let negativity "roll off of you".

Please remember that you are an inspiration to at least 99% of artists/crafters; don't let the negative 1% get you down.

Since you disclosed comments on the other two, I thought I should try to cheer you up on here.

I watched the Martha Stewart show, albeit on the internet a day later, and I barely remember the number mentioned about your salary. I find it more greedy that other people did, as it shouldn't be an issue if you do what you love for their (and yours, of course) pleasure. And even if your salary is high, everyone and you should be proud of it! All your hard work is paying off.

As for other comments, don't pay mind to rude ones. Continue being your happy little self and make all those wonderful creations.
Cheer up, love!

Hi Emily.....just reading your most recent posts and find it almost Freudian that you included poppies in this post. There is a term for what you are going through at the moment and it's called "tall poppy" syndrome. Meaning when you get too tall people want to cut you down.

I went through this during the rise of my business. At the time it is terrifying but with hind sight it only makes you stronger. Infact it is what will always give you your competitive edge over the competition. Infact the world of commerce is infact an ugly one when the varnish rubs off, but our roll as business people is to be swan like on the surface with the little feet going like the clappers underneath. I wish you every success.

xxMichelle

omgosh emily the flower buttons are dreamy. i know you will wear them with original and beautiful style. i lovvvve following your outfits in some girls wander. thanks for sharing :)

LOVE The tea cups!

I love Foundling!

I know how you feel about Etsy - I swear, I'm totally addicted. I think cute things MAKE me push the purchase button...

congrats on making onto the martha show!! real crafters and illustrators like you are inspiring :) best wishes to you in the months ahead as i am sure your bizness is going to be wanted more than ever!!!

congrats again and happy creating!

Hi Emily,
You're rad. Have you ever considered illustrating children's books? Maybe you've done one already that I don't know about? Your artwork is seriously begging to be in a whimsical children's book. I work for a children's book publishing company in Canada and although we only publish canadian authors and illustrators, i think there is a huge market for your talent and style in the U.S.
just thought I would put the bug in your ear...

oooh! I've been eyeing those same poppy pins AND that teacup! This is making resistance all the more difficult...

Hi Emily...
what great finds...

one day I hope you will check out my shop..

you have inspired me to design my own dolls too...I am having way too much fun with these ...

thanks for the inspiration...
Cheers,
Diana

Hey, I wrote about those little poppies about a month ago on my old blog... also I lurve Julianna Swaney. I guess our tastes match today!

ooo those poppies are gorgeous. x

I love Julianna Swaneys work! I already own a few pieces of hers!! I also adore that tea cup set! Wow! You made some wonderful purchases!! I will have to go and check out all of these wonderful shops!
Thanks,
♥Lisa

I'm smitten with the poppies, I have to admit.

i've loved those poppy pins for a while, too! glad you finally indulged!

I love all the pretty red things.. So you too! :)

Miss Martin, I'm so happy that my little bibliophilic foxes could brighten your day!

...the perfect teacup...sigh...

Lovely, those poppy pins are so pretty!

that teacup is so lovely...
....lovely little red things!

Lovely red pretties, indeed! Oh, and I just love Julianna's work...and she is one of the sweetest beans around! :)

I love foundling - she's really sweet too.

I love the colour of the poppies, but here in Australia, paper poppies are worn leading up to ANZAC day (April 25th) to remember our war hero's. So poppies always tend to have a little sadness about them for me.

The tea cup is adorable! I collect tea cups, and have to be quite selective, cause I could buy so many... but that one would definitely make the collection - super cute!

what pretty little discoveries!! :) I've had red on the brain for the past few weeks; I refashioned a red cardigan, am working on a red dress, keeping picking out red accessories. I think it must be something in the air! hehe!

It's funny how you're attracted to particular colours for a while, isn't it? I wonder if there's any symbolism attached to red that you're craving. Warmth, energy, strength, vibrance ... or maybe I'm just talking rubbish. I have noticed that I'm attracted to yellow and orange things recently, which I think is because we're heading into autumn here and the skies are grey and gloomy.

So many great things! My favorite is the teacup and saucer!

Oh wow! I love that teacup! I usually stay away from the Anthropologie webpage because I know I'm going to want 99.9% of the items listed... but maybe I should check out this teacup!

...what an array of poppies she carries.
Very pretty.
I love red too, I drive a red beetle ;)

Have a great week emily..

<3 your friend, michelle

Thanks for the pretty pictures. I too, have been eyeing those poppy pins. And who doesn't love teacups? You always need more!

I love Julianna Swaney's shop. Someday I will have a piece of her artwork...

Happy post!

Ooooh,

I'm off for a nosey at those shops!

Congrats, by the way on all your recent success! Not posted for a while, (been having a baby! Little girl, Sienna-Rose).

I've been loving those poppy hairpins for ages, too! They are so pretty. As are all of your new treasures. That teacup is to die for - now all you need is some red rooibos tea! (I recommend Mighty Leaf's African nectar)

Wow!
Beautiful buys from some equally beautiful shops. I am off to check out those poppies!
Thanks

I love foundling's shop - those poppies are adorable.
I was reading about your dolls.....one of these days may have to try to snag one!
:0)

I love the pins. The poppies and the scatter pins. You have such amazing taste!
