Monkeying Around

I procured this cool little lamp last week, and I really love it. I'm really having the good luck with vintage lamps lately, aren't I?
Thank you so much for all the knitting-book/site recommendations...I feel like I will be kept super busy exploring all of them over the next few weeks. I'm very excited! I also thought it was neat that so many people recommended the same books, which will give me great confidence in ordering some from Amazon in the near future. Thank you again for that!
We painted the studio yesterday (4-5 coats of paint all told to eradicate the tomato-y color) and it is now bright, fresh, white. It took the whole day to move all of the stuff out, paint, and move it back in, and I have the soreness in my legs to prove it. It was so worth it, though...it feels much bigger and airier and I'm so grateful for that. Even though we don't plan on being in this apartment for more than another 5-6 months, I felt like I might not get any work done in those months if we didn't overhaul it a little. I'm sure I'll have some photos soon to share, once it's all just right.
We're heading out of town for the weekend (going up into the mountains! hooray!) so I'll be back on Monday, hopefully clear-headed and bright from the brief change in altitude, and happy to get back to my newly clean and bright studio.

Sometimes, I try to imagine how you decorate your studio...
You always have a lot of great ideas!

Love the lamp!! You have the best luck finding things! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Congrats on the studio painting. My little hobbit hole sewing room needs to be bigger. Maybe one day.

oh that monkey scares me a little....when I was little we had one of those "clapping monkey" things that spooked me.
MY mom would keep in the basement out of my site for fear of my incessant screaming, but as a joke sometimes my dad would place it in places in the house to scare me, like in the cubbard by the cookies, the tub, in my bed, on my book case, in my doll house.

Very cute. I just want to say how much I like your blog, when I'm having a bad day (at the day job) I actually turn to it for a pick me up. It makes me happy, all the pretty and whimsy. Thanks

Just wanted to comment on your beautiful scarve! I just started knitting as well and was wondering what size needles you used and what type of yarn?! I like the chunky look!

Oy I hate painting studios. I'll need a repaint in a few years. Good advice for painting walls especially if you plan on going over any dark colors again in the future. Purchase 1-2-3 Stop by Zinnser primer and it will knock out the number of coats to cover up red walls. I did it to my bedroom a few years ago and it helped a lot.

What an adorable little lamp, Emily!! You certainly have the best luck with finding whimsical vintage goodies... I daresay that Vintage Faeries like you a lot. ;) hehe.
Hope you're having a lovely weekend, relaxing after your painting! Can't wait to see the "revamped" studio!

The lamp is so lovely--your finds are always beautiful.
You should also check out my friend's knitting blog--http://lumay.blogspot.com/--she also has your knitting girl print featured in one of her entries from last summer!
Have a lovely and relaxing trip. And enjoy those lovely white walls.

I can't wait to see pics of the studio in white! I love fresh white walls, everything looks brilliant against white. Unfortunately my landlords will only tolerate Magnolia - yuk.

I love vintage lamps! I used to have the cutest one that was in the shape of a house with a little doll next to it that was my mom's in the '70s, and I've been scouring my basement for it...

Hurray for your white studio, nothing beats it and it seems like each element in a room shows off more. My entire house is white wall with wood furniture and exposed beams, and tons of colored elements.
On a different note, the Year of the Rat is coming soon and it is time to be creative in a mousy way. So, do not forget to participate in my great YEAR OF THE RAT ART EVENT on FEBRUARY 7 2008! Just have fun and use what you want, paper, glue, paint, glitters, recycled stuff, canvas, photography and anything else that tickles your wiskers. I announced this event in December on my blog and did not get as many responses as I was hoping. So, I will bait you with a cheeseless trap to have you wiggle your tail and get you started. I invite you to post a picture of your Year of the Rat creation, be it Mickey Mouse, Three Blind Mice, Rat Fink or anything else of the kind on my blog on FEBRUARY 7 2008. The day after I will put each participant's name on a piece of paper, put the names in a jar and draw one name to be announced as the winner of this swell YEAR OF THE RAT ART EVENT CONTEST. The prize will be a YEAR OF THE RAT SURPRISE BAG created and assembled by moi, your truly, LuLu. No more details... If you want the Surprise Bag you MUST participate by showing off your talents, creativity, humor, artistic sense, great imagination, amazing craftsmanship and maybe unknown skills on this rodent subject. Need more info, just contact me on my blog.
Have a great time in the mountains!
