Handmade 2.0
In case you haven't read it yet, there is a really thoughtful and articulate article on Etsy in today's New York Times! So exciting. We picked up the very last copy at Borders today!
It's right here, and the fourth (and last) section of the piece is mostly about yours truly. It's a good read and the guy, Rob, who wrote it is a good egg!
xoxo

Wow !!! Your work is truly inspiring !!! Have an amazing Christmas and fantastic 2008.

You know, it's so funny that I found Etsy through your blog, so I had no clue that you were one of the greatest "success stories" on Etsy. I was so surprised when I found out because I felt like I knew you a little before I found out you were "famous" ... seems kind of backwards, doesn't it? :)
Congrats on being featured in the article!!

speaking of new york. i was wandering around soho today and happened upon this cute little resturant called cowgirl. while checking out the menu, i noticed a little applette! therefore, i had to go in. the food was delish, of course, and i was so excited to see your print on the special menu! congrats on the times!

It was a wonderful article! I heard about it and ran out just to read it yesterday. I also wanted to tell you that I put a link to your site on mine: www.cheapwomen.org. It is a contest/blog about living thriftily (is that a word?!) and beautifully. I am assuming it is ok to link you, but I wanted to check. Check us out and let me know!

My husband almost tossed our Sunday NYT yesterday, I'm so glad I stopped him. Great article, congrats on being interviewed for the Times!

I need to print this out and read the whole thing but you are in the NY Times! Holy crap!!! Congratulations!!!!

I'm still in the midst of reading the article, but HOORAY for Etsy in the NY Times!! And congrats on the mention... how cool to have your name in such a large publication!! :)
Posted by:Casey | December 17, 2007 at 11:00 AM
yay! congratulations!
you totally deserve your success! to me your work stands out from a lot of the other stuff out there plus through your blog us fans get to know you and how sweet and creative you are in all espects of your life and i think that makes us want to buy more. in a way, what works as great marketing for you is being yourself and that definitely wouldn't work for everyone out there who would like to make a living as an artist.
i hope the article brings you even more fans! even if it makes nabbing emily originals even more difficult.

What a great article! Congrats on getting such a great mention (in the NY TIMES!!!)! I do agree with what they were saying about the competition in Etsy. It seems as if the same few Etsy/blogland "celebrities" get mention over and over while the up and coming new talents are being overlooked. We should all back each other up!

Truly amazing.
I love the art teacher quote... knowing you rose above with such in-your-face-grim- statistics. I know I needn't tell you to be proud of yourself. Let me just hollah, WOW!
Happy Holidays & best of luck in the coming year! =^.^=

what a fantastic article. You know...you don't really get a true feeling for how bit etsy has become until you read something like that. Wow! And believe me, I'm such a happy owner of so many little aplets, so many I can keep track anymore! xo

Congratulations, Emily! What a great article!

Ohmigosh, ohmigosh! The New York Times?!?!? How thrilling! I hope there are people clipping paper copies left and right so everyone close to you can have their own original to pull out of their totes and do a little bragging this Christmas. I say pull that little squirrel around and around your your tree so he can bang his little cymbal in celebration. Well done, Emily!
(And by-the-by, fellow Applets, I was just poking around Art Star Philly's online holiday shop, and it looks like there are Black Apple holiday postcards plus one red-headed red Apple ornament left for the snapping up...) :)
