Ghosts in the other room
I am really in love with these two vintage photos right now. The one on the left was sent to me by my pal Anja of the lovely Etsy shop Clever Nettle. She noticed that the little girl was clearly an applet, and sent her to me as a surprise!
I'm so crazy for the children's expressions...I think I'm going to do a painting inspired by the one on the right. ;)

Great pix.

The little girl in the photo on the left really reminds me of my mom when she was little. So cute. My mom and sister make children's pinafores and many other kids things. You should check out their blog and shop. www.42ndandorange.typepad.com

They are both adorable, but oh man, I've already made up about four million stories about the little one on the left. And that plaid skirt! Ahhh!
Also, the little girl on the right, if she were grown up and living right now and were famous, would totally get Fugged for that bow. However, because she is wee and the picture is vintage, she is nothing short of completely charming.
And, out of all three children, the serious little soldier boy is the one who is killing me the most. He is just way, way too cute for words.

looking forward to the new painting! i love the photo- and the only thing that could REALLY make it better would be you animating and apple-fying those cute little faces!

Oh my goodness!! Those two photos are such gems! I really adore collecting antique and vintage photos and am just starting to branch out from ladies in pretty frocks to children as well (and a few interesting-looking gents!). :)

Hi there! I'm enjoying your blog, which I only just found through Decor8. I think you SHOULD do a painting from the couple of kids. In a way it reminds me of Michael Sowa's artwork which blends the surreal and whimsical with the style of old fashioned portraiture and is somehow gleefully dark yet so charming. Cheers!
