Cozycozy

I really, really love chicken and dumplings. In fact, I would venture to say it is one of my favorite foods. When I left New York, my friend Greg offered to make me whatever I wanted for dinner as a little "farewell", and I opted for chicken and dumplings.
Why, then, have I never actually made them? Furthermore, why do I hardly ever eat them?
I undertook a big pot for dinner on Saturday, which was one of those great kind of days where you have some time to putter around in the kitchen and kind of just feel things out and let things simmer a little more. I used this recipe, which I would highly recommend. I added celery about 15 minutes before taking the whole thing off the heat, and I think that was a great addition, but you are talking to an avid celery fan, so I'm biased. I do like the biscuity sort of dumplings, but I think I might also have a go at a more "noodle-y" dumpling later this week.
We had parsnips on the side...I think I am becoming parsnip-crazed. I love them with just a touch of salt, butter and nutmeg.
Mmmm.

Yum!! I too love chicken and dumplings and have never made them, huh. Thanks for the recipe, I'm on it. I made Carrot Parsnip soup for dinner tonight, it is officially soup season around here.

I notice the fabric napkin and didn't mention it last time when you blogged about making 'em, but I think it's fantastic! Hurray for reusable napkins, handkerchiefs, and the like! Hurray for saving the environment :)

That looks so yummy! I had parsnips yesterday for the first time, and loved them. They're like lemony potatoes, somehow. So good.

I love parsnips too! I sneak them into beef barley soup and my son only wrinkles his nose a little.

i already printed out the recipe. lately i've been wanting to spend ALL of my time in the kitchen. i don't know if it's some sort of winter nesting syndrome or the fact that i'm reading julia child's memoir (which i HIGHLY recommend, i think you would love it as much as i do).

Oooh, that looks good. Especially for the cold weather that has been slowly creeping in around here (thank god). :)
P.S. I ordered my print on 11/16 and it has not yet arrived. Is this normal? Sorry to bug you, I'm just so excited to get it!

Admit it--don't you kind of love parsnips partly because of the word PARSNIP? I'm saying, would a parsnip by any other name make such an endearing side dish? (Sure, I'm a poet, but I think it's a universal phenomenon.)

Oh yum!! That looks like real comfort food!! :) I only tried parsnips last winter for the first time... I want to know how I survived 21 years without them! lol. They are definitely very yummy--I need to get some and roast them to have one evening. :)

Oh, I'm a big parsnip fan, as well! Roasted with sweet potatoes and various squash (acorn, butternut). Yum!

Oh the joys of comfort food. My family has never been big on dumplings but we do love homemade egg noodles! So yummy. Sometimes a few of the noodles sick together so I guess that is sort of like dumplings. I will have to give the parsnips a try as you made them sound tasty and easy to make. Happy Monday.

Wow, your soup and parsnips look sooooo good! I have never had either of those dishes, but now I'm curious to know what they taste like. Those are lovely pictures, by the way. I can see your style and inspirations in your household items.

I am so with you...one of my favorite winter foods. We've been doing lots of turkey & dumplings since Thanksgiving with sweet potato fries on the side. Yum!

yuum... I've made chicken and dumplings only once (the recipe kind of intimidated me, as it included dealing with a whole chicken!!), but I think I'll have to try again with the recipe you used. :) I LOVE chicken and dumplings too, but rarely get to eat them.
