Sad Roses
When we made a late, dinner-ingredient dash to the Grocery store on Sunday night, there were these Charlie Brown roses in the "sale" flower area. They were so pretty, in their tired, tattered way...so I brought them home.
I also realized that we're running short on proper vases in this house...which resulted in this arrangement:
Not too shabby, though, right? Also, I am crazy about this book right now, which figures prominently in these coffee-table pictures.
Off to start my Tuesday in earnest!

Hi! I have been reading your lovely blog for several months, but have not commented until now. I really enjoy all of your creativeness...thanks for sharing little bits of your world.
I too adore that book. I bought it a few years ago for way too much money, $50 I think, but, I just had to have it. I have a serious weakness for textiles and all of the wonderful possibilities therein. I often go to fabric stores just to fondle the fabric and try to dream up projects. Anyway, keep up the wonderful work. And if it would not seem to forward, please pet your sweet kitty for me. I had a lovely gray and white boy named Micah that I had to send to live with my Mama after the birth of my son because he did not mesh well with the new little one and I miss him dearly. So I must share kitty love when I can. Cheers!
Sarah :)

Droool....I had not seen that book yet! All the textile books I've seen have been much pricier...it has now been officially added to my (ridiculously long) wish list! : ) That's just the sort of book I can spend a better part of the day pouring over.
I like the oval-ness of your pretty coffee table, too! :)
Charlie Brown roses are the best kind! How kind of you to love them in their last days.

I am getting married in a few weeks and we are having all our table floral arrangements in mis-matched vintage teapots that we have picked up here and there over the last few months...it's such a winner of an idea!

That teapot is amazing. I love it.
I put flowers in pitchers all the time. I think they look nicer sometimes when not in a regular old vase.

Hi Emily,
I have the same book! I love it to pieces. It weighs a ton but is chocked full of inspirational patterns!
cheers.

Oh my--those flowers are so pretty in a way that tattered old dresses appeal to me too. :) Love that you stuck them in the teapot!!
Oh my goodness--thank you for pointing out that book! I guess I know what else is going on my Christmas wish list! *giggle*
Have a lovely Tuesday! :)

Beautiful flowers! I personally think roses are even prettier as they are wilting. My husband bought me two roses some time ago, and they were even prettier when they were at the end of their lifespan.

You probably already know about this, but just in case; nestdecorating.typepad.com has a post about a Russian Textiles book that is pretty awesome. I think you might enjoy that.

I love the flowers in the teapot. It's much more quirky and interesting than some vases would be.

The roses are absolutely gorgeous. Your home looks so lovely and welcoming. (And I love the rounded edges on your photos.)

It would be lovely if you dried those roses as they are and left them in that pot. I love roses in vintage silver pots.

Love the tree on the wall and the roses are so sweetly Charlie Brown-like...thank goodness you got them to love. Gorgeous in the old pitcher. Our Goodwill always has dark tarnished silver- I love that patina that it gets and never polish mine. I really like pewter also. Your little place looks so sweet- are you still moving?

I, too, have been pouring over that book recently, for inspiration in glazing my pots. Love it!

I want some trees on my walls too! But they have too much texture. It makes the room look so cozy. Great job with the finishing touches Emily--it looks great.

there's something about these pictures....i think that combination of the tree mural and the colour of the table.....and those roses are exquisite.
