As Lou Reed would say...
It's such a perfect day/
I'm glad I spent it with you...
Well, I guess it's a little early in the day to be making proclamations like that. It's just that it is a beautiful day, all early fall and rustling and wonderful.
We just got back from a nice long run in the breezy coolness and now that I'm smelling nicely again, I'm a-blogging and (about to be) a-baking. I've got paintings to be painting, and a stack of fall magazines (including the incredibly fun Martha Halloween issue). Yesterday was kind of crummy, so I'm grateful that Sunday is making up for it with a vengeance!
I finished work on a new little gal yesterday...
Miss Lydia 8"x10"x2" Acrylic on fabric, mounted on canvas
I think she's a perfect early-fall girl.
The eagle-eyed of you will remember that particular calico from this post a few days ago. I really, really love this fabric and have been hording my last half-yard for about 4 years. If anyone has any tips/sees it at their local fabric shop, I would be most grateful for your help. I think I just picked it up at a Wal-mart when I was in college...and I haven't seen it anywhere since!
Enjoy your Sunday afternoon, I'm off to bake some oatmeal cookies + do some painting.
PS: Don't forget, the first Black Apple Shop Sale starts tonight at Midnight!

I can't believe you can paint on fabric like this too! I'm in awe!! I really want to start painting now, but I don't even know where to start to make it look so "real"....I paint over vogue people though..that's kinda fun...well, I can always come here and dream....so much inspiration, and color! love it! :)

Don`t know if I´ve left a comment before (I`ve been meaning to) but I really like your blog - it makes me smile everytime I read it. Plus I adore the colours in your home! Thanks for making the world more beautiful.

She's very sweet and I love the fabric you used for the background. It inspires me to add more calico to my stash--more fuel for my addiction...

Oh hello there Ms Black Applet! I must let you know... Thanks to your delightful works of art I have started painting again! I have had a ten year break so this is quite triumphant. I do understand it is rather odd to direct this at a stranger but I really have enjoyed your work and I just needed to squeeze some paint! he he. I can't wait for pay day next week as I will finally own your art! I am also glad that you paint brown eyes as it is so rare, thanks Emily, from a brown eyed lady! xxx http://littlestitcher.blogspot.com/

I have some of that fabric! A yard or two... I bought it for an Easter dress for my daughter, from Wal-Mart's $1/yard stacks....

I adore your Miss Lydia. She is adorable! Now if she had blonde hair, she might look a little bit like my daughter. I just got her hair cut similar to that. :-)

Dear Emily,
I love your work. When I came to your front page for the first time I actually squealed with delight. :-) And if you knew me, you'd know that I never do that...out loud anyway. ;-) Please please make some more dollies when you can. They are so amazing and beautiful, they touch my heart. I hope you are having a wondrous night. Don't stop dreaming and designing, please.
Love,
Tarah

That is so beautiful! Did you paint on the fabric?

I have that fabric! I picked it up at a thrift store some time in the last year but it hasn't seen much use around here other than as photo backgrounds. I have just over a metre of it that I'd be happy to send you. I also have a dress that I was going to put on ebay but it's totally your style so I can send that too... maybe we could do a trade? there's a picture of the dress on my flickr: http://flickr.com/photos/lizbot/1393841940/

Miss Emily,
I think you should send some cookies my way. That would make me sooo happy. Yesterday was a crummy day for me too.. And then it ended by my little perpetual holiday tree falling over and landing on my head, where I manged to crack a bunch of glass ornaments (on my head). I am fine, but I went into 5 year old fit mode! Hahaha...
So, about the cookies ;) hee heeee
Oh, I love your Lydia... We have a lot of Lydia's in my world... Aunts, Owl Girls, and the local lady who walks up and down Oracle road, in huge vintage gowns, and long red curly extensions, with an umbrella. Every day, 30 minutes into town and back... Occassionally you see someone picking her up...
I love the name Lydia... A fine name indeed! xxo
Oo, faeries on NPR!! Love it!! Gotta go listen, lotsa hugs, V
