I'm a stuff-purger...
I think anyone who really loves stuff can only stay sane if they are also a purger.
SO.
I cleaned out my jewelry box (doing some pre-fall cleaning) and I have loads of buttons, necklaces, charms etc. that I just don't need. I thought it would be fun for a jewelry designer or a lucky little girl to play with! The first person that wants 'em, gets 'em. Just leave a comment, expressing your desire to have a little bag of bric-a-brac jewelry sent your way, and the first person to do so gets a bag-o-stuff.
I'll email for your shipping address!
(EDIT: Ann, your bag-o-suprises will be on its way shortly!)
Now I can see the really pretty things that I actually wear and use:
I really don't wear too many non-necklace-y things, so that's the entirety of what's left in the little box!
The update today was a HUGE flurry of movement, so thank you so much for taking time to pop in!
I am so sorry that some folks didn't get the things they had their heart set on, but please understand that with running a shop, having a sliver of an outside-life, there is no way for me to make enough dolls, paintings, etc. every time. Everything that I make (as you might suspect) is really time-consuming, especially the sewn things (ie: dolls).
I will be having another update soon (2-3 weeks) and am already working on new paintings, so don't despair! And I'll try to make a bigger batch of dolls next time, as everyone (happily) seems to really love them.

My little girl would love all your purged little trinkets !
Brava Emily for your creativity and talent, we cherish every post on your blog and the prints that we have at home.

"Where did that great woodcut brooch of the girl and the bird come from?"
Ooooh! Oooh! I know this one.... see "November 2006" in the Black Apple achives. :)

in the pile of jewelry that you are keeping, where did that great woodcut brooch of the girl and the bird come from?
Posted by:bex | August 08, 2007 at 05:55 PM
just a thought...might you include a few *less expensive* surprises when you do a shop update? i eyed all the prettypretty originals and dollies, but there wasn't anything i could really afford. perhaps a few new buttons or new prints or something? i was so saddened there was nothing i could get...

Good golly! I missed all the fun! Great new work Applie!

I wish that I was much more of a purger than I am. :)
Posted by:tiffany | August 08, 2007 at 11:14 AM
I'm a purger, too.....I like a clutter-free space....like Flora Post in Cold Comfort Farm: "unless everything is tidy and pleasant and comfortable all about one, people cannot even begin to enjoy life." : )
Of course, I'm also a lover of stuff....so it's a battle between the two sides! :)
Love your little girly bird pin! :)

Aww man,I wish I'd been the first to comment! I hope Ann enjoys her goodies, lucky thing :)

yes, purging *is* good... being a "collector" myself (I'm convinced that my animal world alter-ego is a magpie! lol!!!). you have the cutest stash of buttons though... that typewriter one is just too adorable! hehe.
glad to hear your shop update went so well... I'm just sad I was working while that was going on! *sigh* hopefully next time I won't be so unfortunate. lol.

It is lucky i was too slow because I am poor but would not have been able to resist a painting! I have some of those same badges and I don't wear them either - maybe I should purge but I'm such a hoarder.

I just loggged on for my newest guilty pleasure and am a sad panda I had not done so earlier. Perhaps another time. =]
Till then, 'ello there. You are way uber inspiring. You'll probably see me around here now. =]
But not in that crazy stalker way.

Rats! I would have loved to be the on the receiving end of your purge! Maybe someday the black baby doll dress? :)

Hi Emily,
I'm always at work during the week when the updates happen...could you do a Saturday update sometime? Your work is irresistable as ever!
Posted by:Annie | August 07, 2007 at 11:34 PM
shoot! did I really miss the dolls by checking in 7 hours after the shop update? I just checked etsy and didn't see dolls, so I must assume "yes" (and appears from the comments I'm not the only one disappointed!) my mom and my sister both collect dolls and I know they'd LOVE a new original - is there any way I could "negotiate" another generation of the dolls?

Fantastic update Emily!! I hope all the lovely dolls got wonderful little homes :) Also the glimpse of the yummy bird shoes made me smile!

You know, i just called Big Brother Big Sister because they do home pickups. I have a million and one inherited pieces of clothing that I figured I would pass along to those less fortunate. Altruism day!
The original drawings you had in the shop were really lovely; I think they were my favorite part of the update. Sometime, when I am feeling a little more financially solvent, I will try and lay my paws on one.

I've been lurking on your page forever.. it's my am with coffee in hand routine. I was anxiously waiting for your shop update and at 2:06 EST realized that there was no way I would have a Sophie doll for my daughter's bday (2 on the 16th of August) or the print I really wanted (the one you used for your update announcement - the girl with the suitcase). Oh well, this will teach me! BE FASTER NEXT TIME! LOL

aaaw... I had to work all day with no computer access. :( How sad. I usually have a comnpter I can use while the bug I nanny sleeps, lol... but not today. Oh well. The dolls are gorgeous! Congrats on the quick sales (and wow to the jewelry give-away)!
Posted by:Sarah | August 07, 2007 at 06:48 PM
I'm happy to read you'll try to make another shop update in a few weeks, I'll just try to not miss it. I look forward for paintings, not much for dolls, even if they're pretty :)
u rock little Emily!

Congrats on all the sales--we understand how long it takes you to make such beautiful art. I think there's just sadness when you think you've acted quickly enough and you haven't and the painting/doll in your basket has gone. I just hope there will be one black apple original in my future--I thought I might be organized enough to get it today but it wasn't to be. Maybe one day a cat and girl painting will find its way onto my wall!

Aww... That's a sweet give-away :) Those dolls really did fly didn't they!
Posted by:Samantha | August 07, 2007 at 05:40 PM
Wait I just remembered I won one of the drawings earlier, and I don't want to be a greedy person so please give it to the next person! I just wanted to tell you that I was bummed I missed out on Sophie dolls!
